A pretty wedding took place at Holy Catholic Church on September 1 as C ure daughter of Mr and Mrs Campbell Innisfailroad married Francis David Dowdell son of Mr and Mrs Dowdell of Focumwal MS Wales. Rev Father Cavanah officiated. The couple left for Cairns after a reception at the CWA hall with about 60 guests.

Tully Notes Brace Local Social And Birthday Gathering

In Tully September events mark the first anniversary of the RAGS Temple with 160 members and friends attending a well organized social. Walter Bell chaired the toast to One King and the Grand Lodge, supper featured by the ladies, and flowers from Ingham. The Rhythm Rascals and Smithwick's Orchestra provided music. A balloon dance drew notice. Separately, Charles Blythman’s coming of age on August 24 prompted a CWA Hall gathering with games, dancing, singing, and a two tier birthday cake presented by Mr. Blythman assisted by friends. A gilt initials side and autographs decorated the cake, with Harold Trainor proposing the toast to Charles.

Babinda Notes Birthday Party Honors W T Johnston

Babinda Sept. 3 a birthday party at the residence of Mrs Servalli and Mr and Mrs W Russ East Russell honored W T Johnston Ambulance Superintendent of the Babinda Centre for 25 years. About 34 guests included many early district residents. Milri¢ and a quiz session entertained. A two tier birthday cake iced by Mrs Mignone, with gifts, was served. Toasts praised Johnston's long service and progress in the centre. Guests included Mrs Servalli Mrs Ross Deeral Mr J Niven and others. A travel rug and suitcase were given as a gift, with wishes for health and many more birthdays. The event featured readings toasts and singing.

Lane to tour Australia then Tasmania after five months abroad

Mr Lindsay G Lane of Pioneer Tours Ltd will depart Cairns by air today after five months tropical service with the company. He will visit Brisbane Melbourne and Adelaide before returning to Tasmania for the southern summer tours. The North Cairns branch of the Catholic Daughters of Australia met on Tuesday with Rev Father O Shea and officers present. Apologies were noted from several members. Plans were made for an upcoming ball and a Kardon party at Aeromlen later this month. Hostesses for the next meeting are Mesdames Martin Ping and Rawnsley.

Choral Society Notes on Mareeba Concert Practice

The Mareeba Choral Society enjoyed a well attended dress rehearsal with polished choral pieces. After six years Shaftesbury Homes in Queensland headed by Major Roy Cooper announces that British orphans may travel to Queensland. Government objections by Minister for Immigration Mr Gair delayed approval citing finances, accommodation and availability. Fairbridge Society to join, with approval granted, to bring hundreds of children, with two thirds capital costs funded by governments and 16 shillings per child weekly maintenance.
