The diary notes detail James Bruce’s stay in Gonder during the Abyssinian campaign. Bruce, welcomed by Christians and Mahometans, faces smallpox, servant mutinies, and logistical trials. The budget proposals aim to exempt dependents and others but face federal resistance to religious organization controls, while debates on Jehovah’s Witnesses and financing continue.
