Buenos Aires on October 30 reports well informed circles say Argentina and Britain signed a trade agreement. The British Embassy said it had not received official information from London.

The article notes early warnings from The Carn Post and the Queensland Trustees' Review about harms of keeping interest rates too low, urging taxation as an alternative. It cites Commonwealth Bank support from trading banks for war spending, with Treasury bill holdings reduced by over two million pounds and total bank assistance to government nearing CoHA million. It discusses how banks use funds to buy government securities, yielding about 3 percent on securities and 14 percent on Treasury bills, while maintaining liquidity. National Bank of Australasia summaries confirm favorable banking conditions, with Queensland deposits rising from £19,949,000 to £40,491,000 and advances fluctuating around £36-37 million. The piece highlights drought relief finance needs in the southern states and notes that state governments will shoulder some relief costs, with banks likely to provide immediate financing.
