In Cairns Small Debts Court on Wednesday Walter Domoney known as Walter Williams sues Frederick Innis for defamation. Evidence includes heated exchanges about feeding children and alleged abuse, with witnesses supporting both sides and the judge wiring laughter through the crowded room.
The court heard allegations that a woman abused and neglected children on multiple occasions including physical threats and forcing a cup of water for meals. Ivy Innis testified about a girl named Doreen Dempney, and a general concern about the care of the plaintiff’s children. The case was adjourned to March 18.
At a Cleveland Institution of Engineers meeting in Middlesbrough Ernest Bury of Skinningrove Iron and Steel Works outlined a process to extract ethylene alcohol and derivatives from coke oven gas. He reported 1.6 gallons per ton carbonised and noted Britain’s 1918 coal coke total could yield over 2.3 million gallons of liquid fuel, with greater gains from gasworks recovery.
