A Cairns Towns Council meeting heard a report by Mr FP F Loinley on sanitation. The plan suggests a sewer system to replace the nightsoil pan method, reducing health risks, with an initial design for two 300 unit tanks and tidal discharge strategy to minimize pollution. Sewerage Plant Design With Sedimentation and Digestion Tanks
The plan describes two 18 by 15 feet sedimentation tanks with vertical baffles, an inverted pyramid bottom, and a digestion tank between them. It details inflow, scum handling, sludge transfer to digestion, and sludge drying beds totaling 10 000 square feet. A detention tank and sludge paths, plus an undergrond pumping station and gravity sewer slope toward a discharge point are outlined.
