Cancer research shows infectious nature of chicken tumors
Scientists from Carnegie Institution and Johns Hopkins report chicken tumors show cancer is contagious through blood plasma and white blood cells. Experiments by Lewis and Anderwent indicate serial transmission in chickens, with plasma causing cancer in about 5 percent and white cells in 95 percent, suggesting a virus-like infectious agent carried by blood and immune cells.
