Sugar Industry Reports Harvest Prospects in Mackay and Districts
The General Superintendent of the Sugar Experiment Station notes hoped for a record crop in Mackay Proserpine and Lower Burdekin is unlikely due to heavy rain, floods, and cane damage. New lands along the Rockhampton line are brought under cultivation, with projections of up to 45 000 to 50 000 tons for Mackay district. Proserpine faces late planting and rain delays, while Babinda Mulgrave districts suffer flood damage but show signs of recovery and ongoing lectures on cane culture.
