Opium Haul Prosecution Case in Cairne Court
Arthur Lake faced charges in Cairne Summony Court for alleged opium possession and sale. Marilyn Harris and McDonnell appeared for the defense while Senior Sergeant Lawrence prosecuted. The search of Lake’s shop yielded a brown paper parcel containing opium and a second parcel, with witnesses detailing the surrounding events and the warrant under the Aboriginal Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Acts. Lake pleaded not guilty. the court adjourned for ruling with a 3/6 fine option and seven days to pay if found guilty.
