Solitary Voyage Round World Inspires Local Convent Plans
A historical account recalls Gerard Gerbault and Joshua Slocum and the cost of their voyages. The bishop’s foundation, new convent, and school at Atherton are praised as the aim to educate youth and beautify the town. Funds tally around £7000 with donations to complete church and parish building. The bishop attends a ceremony laying the foundation stone, welcomed by priests and villagers. The piece laments past building costs and celebrates the plan to open the convent and school for the parish.
