Naming Ships in the Royal Navy Through the Ages
The article surveys Royal Navy ship names from Ark Royal to Ark’s successors, tracing traditions from Tudor to modern times. It notes a mix of battle legends, noble titles, empire names, and mythic and class-based monikers, with emphasis on dignity over romantic flair and occasional exceptions like Ark Royal becoming a carrier.
