Dream visions of passion and sorrow in a fractured verse
A fragmented poem-passage portrays a man’s dream of universal compassion and a purer love, contrasting with harsh reality. It shifts from collective grief to intimate longing, ending with a hint of desire and discovery as the speaker awakens and laughs.
Hospital minutes and local inquiries mark a wet week
The piece notes heavy rains with over ten inches falling and dampening many things while verdant hills emerge. It records the Hospital Committee meeting on Tuesday January 13 with attendees and the medical officer’s report, donations received, and applications for medical officer, selecting Dr. Sims after a special meeting January 21. Also mentioned are industrial matters with Wesley and Macdonald tied to a lead furnace, and the disappearance and death of Thomas Crabb near the town pool culminating in a sorrowful incident.
