Loneliest Guardian of Shetland Skua Colony
Henry Edwardson, the lone watcher on Herma Ness in Uncat, keeps vigil over the great skua colony with sea in sight and birds as companions. Since 1923 he has managed the field hut, aiding protection efforts and turning a dwindling colony into a thriving site of over 200 nesting skuas by 1974, earning a Royal Society medal for his decades of service.
