Atlantic Flier in Cairns Tours Before Sydney and Melbourne
Flight-Lieutenant Sir Arthur W Brown and Lady Brown visited Cairns on Tuesday while the St Albans vessel remained in port. Brown, who navigated the Vickers Vimy across the Atlantic in June with Captain Sir John Alfork, talked about commercial aviation in Australia, aerial mail and passenger services, and the cost and feasibility of long transoceanic routes. He noted private capital and government subsidies would shape Australia’s aviation future, with fish freight trials in England and plans for an air link to New Zealand and a San Francisco connection, while warning against rushed development without sufficient traffic and return on investment.
