Hand of Friendship Held Out by America Across Pacific
A Honolulu World’s Pike Congress featured Australians led by J. H. Kessell of Gladstone and A. Dunn of Rockhampton. Kessell praised American hospitality and warned of Anglo American ties, stressing common stock and the need to foster friendship. He noted Honolulu roads, pineapple canning, and a potential Australasia meeting, with Governor reviewing troops and a naval display. He warned war between Britain and the United States would destroy civilization and urged closer Pacific relations. Premier John Storey’s trip to Honolulu was also discussed.
