An advertisement urges economical living during the crisis. It claims Dr Morse's Indian Root Pills keep the system clean and organs functioning, reducing need for medical care. Bottles contain about forty pills and sell for one shilling to threepence depending on location.
In Norman Parx on Friday Cairns beat Irvine bank by four wickets and 77 runs. A. Amies scored 111 not out for Cairns in the innings with 82 in boundaries. W. Hannysee and G. Oxley also featured. Mayers led Irvine bank bowling with 6 for 15 in Cairns totals. Lepinath added 3 for 12. Weather held until a shower but did not affect play. Cairns to replay Irvine bank to-day with a full Cairns lineup listed for 6.30 a.m.
The Watsonville Rifle Club held 200 300 and 600 yard events on the 2nd for Mr. R Ford's trophy. Conditions were poor with erratic wind and light. E Rowlands won with scores led by 30 24 47 and others including R Trevenen D Morris J Morris and H Day. The Mulgrave Rifle Club later hosted a trophy shoot for A C Napier with Horton edging Words and Napier taking prizes. scores show Napier 22 17 25 and Horton 29 4 3.
A medal is presented to the Club by Mrs ONeill in memory of her two sons Willie and Gordon who were active members when war began, enlisted, and made the supreme sacrifice. The medal will be shot for in due course, and the winner will have something to be proud of from the mother of such sterling boys.
Rain fell heavily with a half hour storm and strong winds. Browning of Atherton Ambulance Centre discussed first aid training. Traction engine operated in scrub for timber on Wednesday. Boxing Day sports planned by committee. Tamoulin committee hosted events on the 26th. Garret races drew local youth and a man was killed in an accompanying incident. Train passenger numbers rose this week.
