Weary Port Alma Stevedores Refuse Duties
During loading operations at Port Alma on December 9 a stevedore sighted a hook belonging to a cotton bang in the air. Investigators found several men in the vessel hold ignoring orders. A warning was issued and the crew were told to return to shore. Two men stood up and left with others following. a truckload of cotton had already been loaded but two other trucks remained. It seems unlikely the cotton will be shipped as the crew guilty cannot handle cargo until the vessel sails.
