Early Pioneers of Babinda and Russell River Districts
An account recalls the early settlers of the Russell River and Babinda regions, noting graves of Nelson Sorensen Field and others, the arrival of rail and tram lines, the Mulgrave mill, and initial settlement around 1882. It describes Kanaka labor history, sparse population, hardy travel routes, Hickeys and local inns, and the harsh life of selectors before modern infrastructure.
