Farmers in court over deliberate tax return fraud
Mr Carroll for the Crown charged that a partnership and its members filed false returns under Section 64a with penalties from £2 to £10. Defendants, longtime farmers, used an agent and mis-stated deductions including haulage and fertilisers. Judge stressed ignorance is no excuse and considered penalties for deliberate defrauding of revenue.
