Postwar challenges for Australian industry and governance
In Sydney last week the Chamber of Manufactures of New South Wales heard Mr J Hendy warn that Australian industry faces its fight after the war. He urged vigilance against bureaucratic excess and risks of postwar controls while stressing the need for rehabilitation of servicemen, employment growth, and national development supported by Allies while maintaining free institutions. He cited postwar production, the Red Cross’s war efforts, and a demographic outlook including Tasmania’s orchards and Australia’s large sheep population as context for industrial strategy and self-reliance.
