Letter from Cairns survivor recounts wartime kindness
The writer, hearing from a Cairns native, reflections on the March events and the Rabaul garrison aftermath. He recalls how Cairns civilians helped evacuees, sharing meals and showers, and how the town’s warmth eased the soldiers’ and escapees’ distress. The letter praises kindness and urges remembrance.
