The Hon M Hunter with Mrs and Miss Hunter Mr Rose and others arrived at Atherton to inspect the district. Local leaders welcomed them and discussed soldier settlement beerburrum canning plans and rail and road access. Governadil Seeks Profit Avenues For Soldiers Lands

Claim for Wages in Babinda Industrial Court

In Cairns Police Magistrate's Industrial Court James A Lallback sued AL Kelly for 30 8 balance of wages due. He testified he worked as a carpenter from April to 27 July, paid 14 shillings per day for ten weeks and 16s for the rest, with 10s 6d for 12 Saturdays and 2s per remaining Saturday, and claimed underpayment against award rates. Kelly disputed the claim, saying the witness was worth £1 a day and noting deductions. The case proceeded with legal representation for both sides.

Carpenter Wage Dispute Ends With Plaintiff Award

Plaintiff awarded £15 20s in wages plus £2 5s 6d costs after a long dispute with defendant Kelly over rates and overtime. Testimony included claims of self work by the plaintiff, nonunion status, and settlement offers ranging to £10. Industrial Inspector Brown and Amalgamated Society representatives featured in the proceedings.

Caution urged for pneumonia risk among vulnerable groups

The text warns that the elderly and those with weak lungs should guard against pneumonia which follows cold or influenza. It claims prevention is possible with Chamberlain's Cough Remedy at first symptoms and notes many have warded off pneumonia by its use. Sold everywhere.
