A 90 percent trial from the Department of Agriculture tested sugar beet growing with imported seed to locate a plot large enough for a district to sustain a modern beet sugar factory. Inverell yielded 9 tons per acre. Tenterfield and Jenkin Werell plots showed strong results. Establishing profitable future trials remains the aim.
