Babinda Ambulance Annual Meeting Discusses Car Upgrade
The twenty fourth Babinda Centre annual general meeting was held at brigade quarters. Presiding Mr. SL McDonnell reported the ambulance car, used since 1930, was replaced with a Dodge Bros chassis and modern body at £575 1s 9d. A £389 4s 4d interest free loan from Health and Home Affairs was approved for three years, with £9 repaid by June. Commonwealth Loan Board funds were credited to the centre in Cairns Bank. Endowable revenues rose due to a successful special appeal to cover the new car costs.

Sudden Death At Donniefail Showground During Woodchop
At Donniefail Showground yesterday afternoon, Matthew Mitchie died while erecting poles for a woodchop event. Witness John Atherton of the Johnstone Electric Authority testified Mitchie worked on the track with a two ton truck and winch when a post was lifted at a 45 degree angle. Mitchie was cautioned to hold, then the winch was operated until the pole reached vertical. Mitchie fell, and the operator directed the pole back to the hole. Senior Sergeant G J Selby examined the witnesses.
