Local notes show Patterson's Curse spreading beyond Boorowa town, alarming residents 40 miles distant. Councillors discussed declaring it a noxious weed and funding eradication, with estimates of 10 000 to 20 000 pounds for spraying and control.
A popular concert and revue at Young Town Hall Monday night presents guest artists John Narelle Jesor and Jan Freeman pianist. They will perform a selection list including Mother Marches What a Wonderful World and The Star with audience requests. The event aims to please all tastes with modern and classic pieces.
Boorowa residents witnessed a rare celestial display as the crescent moon and Venus appeared in near conjunction on Wednesday evening. Venus, the brightest object in the sky, passed just above the moon, drawing attention from locals.
The Hon. Member for Home Mr A Fuller will visit Boorowa next Wednesday to address electors on the forthcoming Referendum. He will speak from Bobbin's Corner at & pom, sharp. Welcomes were extended to two new members Messe O Sullivan and J Tierney by the President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Boorowa Chamber of Commerce purchased equipment for the Children’s Playground Centre in the Recreation Ground. The contractor Mr Dave Normesse has completed the order and all items have arrived awaiting assembly. Council staff will erect the facilities within days and an electrician will install lighting. The site will feature a double swing slide horizon wave and climbing frame among other equipment.
The Boorowa Show Society plans extensions to the Sheep Pavilion to meet rising exhibitor demand after a record sheep entry. The need includes more pens and temporary structures as existing space proved insufficient and several exhibitors faced overcrowding. A sub-committee will oversee donations and erection of the additions with Mr Wright chairing the effort.
Eric Woods proprietor of Christy's Sydney meat exclusive Dance Restaurant flew to Canberra last Friday to supervise a broadcast partly sponsored by John Narelle and Jan Freeman from 2CA. The party later visited Dr. T Kiernan and Mrs Kiernan at the Irish Legation.
February seen as too early for the Boorowa Show delegates appointed to attend the Southern Highlands Shows Association meeting at Goulburn May 27 will press for a later date. President Mir A T Cusack and others argued February limits planning and urged March show scheduling to suit the district.
After a two month beer strike Boorows residents could buy beer again last Saturday as all four Boorows hotels served beer throughout the day ending the stoppage.
Mr Mason urged appointing the President and Secretary to decide show dates. Rev Brown noted catering must be addressed on hot days. Mr Armstrong said timing affected the show's success and urged timely arrangements.
