Hospital Appeal Fund Exceeds Seven Thousand Pounds

The Hospital Nurses Home and Renovations appeal passes the £7,000 mark after a week of substantial donations. The committee expects government subsidy details from the Chief Secretary and can begin immediately once approved. Major contributors include J. V. Melbourne Charity Race Meeting at Burra Races

The Burra Racing Club Ltd will stage a seven event charity meeting at Burra Racecourse on Wednesday October 15. Proceeds go to the Burra Hospital Building Fund. improvements include new railing and a stand for owners and trainers. Special bus services from Adelaide will run. entry fees apply as usual. Tickets are on sale at local hotels and outlets.

Found Thrown From Horse On Redcliffe Station

Mr Brian Henderson an employee on Redcliffe Station was thrown from a horse while traveling across the property on Friday. He lay unable to move for some time before being found by Overseer Sid Willis who transported him to Burra Hospital where he remains as a patient. The accident occurred away from the homestead and could have had serious consequences if he had not been found.

The Advertiser reports a Burra party of youths may visit the Coronation. The mayor calls a meeting to gauge local sponsorship for a chosen Burra youth, with an estimated cost around £200 and broad local support expected.

Readiness For Show In Readiness For Show

The Secretary of the Burra Burra Show Incorporated Mr F N Fabian reports the committee has everything ready for the forthcoming Show on Saturday 11 October. Entries are being received at the Secretary's Office Pearces Building and catalogues are available to the public. Sir George Jenkin is slated to officially open the Show at 12 45 pm in front of the Luncheon Pavilion. Burpee of Eudunda will cater for luncheon afternoon tea and hot water for picnics and run the publicans booth fruit ice cream and cool drink stalls.

Finances For Caravan Park Project At Burra Meeting

Burra Progress Association held its monthly meeting on September 17 to discuss finances for a caravan park project needing 100 pounds. Donations of 25 pounds were reported anonymous and about 26 pounds was raised from the Ten Meanest People. A dance at the RSL Hall next Saturday and a sheep-weight guessing contest on October 11 aim to raise funds. The Mayor has around 45 pounds in hand and subsidy could lift total to 290 pounds if government approval comes through. The group also discussed school boys cycle races, community centres conference attendance, and government subsidies for sporting amenities. Bruce Wauchope Transferred to Penola Office

Bruce Wauchope, after about 18 months at the local Branch of Messrs Golds brough Mort's, has been transferred to the firm's Penola office. He showed interest in the Badminton Association and the Cricket Club and is wished success in his new sphere of activities.
