Burra Seeks Burra Road Priority From Government
At a Burra Town Council meeting, the Town Clerk cited information that the Highways Department plans a bitumen road from Boobcrowle and Spalding to feed the north, with Burra seemingly passed over despite a 4 February 1946 ministerial letter claiming the Gaddleworth Burra Red via Black Springs as a priority. Councillors urged MPs to press for Burra Saddleworth Road priority, noting Burra’s position on the main road to Broken Hill and calling for district cooperation.

Burra Rates Unimproved Land Values Debated
The Burra Town Council received reply from the Minister for Local Government who refused to express an opinion on unimproved land values for Burra. The Government, at the Montelpal Association’s request, may allow a 33 1/3 percent increase on the maximum rate. Several country councils relying on unimproved values face financial stress, port Pirie would not improve much, Burra’s 4½ square miles include unsubdivided land and Coyne could impose a 5 percent rate on fee simple portions. The council tabled the letter for next meeting.
