Burra Flour Mill History and Sale Reflections
A local reminiscence recounts Burra’s flour mill with two mills at Penwortham and Burta. The narrative covers construction, capacity changes, fuel costs, ownership shifts through 1918 to Beny Roach & Son, and eventual sale. It notes high fuel costs from wood, shifts in wheat farming nearby, and a belief that the mill needed modernization. The author criticizes the city firm’s decision not to invest and urges local citizens to support the sale outcome.

Government limits super to sixty acres for farmers
A farmer laments wartime super rationing that restricts wheat planting to 60 acres despite permission to sow 200. He argues this creates idle land, wasted time and machinery, and forces higher costs to meet annual expenses while others lack enough super to meet needs. He questions why permission is granted for acreage the supply cannot support.
