Ernest F Marston longtime Burra citizen and former owner of The Burra Record died at home in Kangaroo 81 Burra on Monday February 23 He was born in Heathcote Victoria 80 years 10 months ago and worked as a printer and newspaper manager before moving to Burra He served as president of the local bowls club chairman of the Burra Electric Supply Co and JP He was married to Mary Lane in 1917 burial held at Burra Cemetery with Church of England prayers by N Woodards and bearers F B Reed J R Barbrook.

Season's Biggest Grass Fire Ravages Rural District Near Burra
A scorching Tuesday morning blaze in Nils District north of Burra destroyed thousands of acres of grass and stubble, gutting fences and sheds. More than 300 volunteers fought the fire with fire breaks and machinery from Clare Manoora and surrounding districts, saving bare homesteads but incurring heavy losses to C P Turner G Finch J Lockett Mrs G Webster and others including W and J Mitchell. The blaze crossed rails near the Adelaide Burra line and burned into Koonoona, with insurance gaps worsening the financial impact on small farmers.
