Pine Valley Trophy stage results at Burra Rifle Club

The eighteenth Pine Valley Trophy stage was fired May 29 at Burra ranges 8 and 900 yards with eight shots per man. W K Pexton won the match. J Schwier second and top off the rifle. T R Pexton third. E Hopkins fourth. C D Pexton fifth. Scores show Pexton 80, Schwier 74, and others in the teens to thirties. Leaders include N Willis and W E Peston. Marksmuths Trophy leaders are H H Byles, N Willis, J Schwier. A text shoot is planned June Sth, with W G Woodman in charge. Sub-committee appointed May 22 includes H H Byles as chair, R Barty, R G Bernhardt, N Willis secretary. a dance is set for June 6 at Aberdeen Lodge. Tonight features Ladies match, Red and Gold and Black Green contests.

The manager reports for the fortnight ending 22nd May 1937 Lean's Shaft vertical drives extended north and south with modest gold values. Main North Drive shows promising crusts and gold in dish while a battery processed 15 tons yielding 39 ounces 2 dwts per ton. Higgs Open Cut advances five feet to total 51 feet with quartzite strengthening. Crystalline and Mustard gold seen. overall outlook cautious but encouraging.

Reserved judgement in action for damages at Burra local court

In Burra local court on May 25 Patrick Dower of Kooringa sued Leo Kennedy of Spalding for 12 pounds 17 shillings damages after Kennedy’s motorcycle allegedly rear ended Dower’s car during Show Day near the Aberdeen Croquet grounds. Kennedy and companion Darwent claimed slow travel and braking, while witnesses Olive Bass and Jan Young supported them. The judge reserved judgment after arguments on driver control versus agency and negligence, noting a Police Amendment Act breach for two motorcyclists riding abreast.

Burra Police Court Fines Allen Sellars For Unpermitted Wool Carriage

In Burra Police Court on Tuesday May 25, Allen Sellars was fined seven pounds ten shillings plus one pound sixteen shillings costs for unlawfully carrying wool for hire without a permit on a combined route, after pleading guilty via Mr F L Worth. The case involved a potential conspiracy with a grazier identified as Tiver to defeat the act, but the magistrate imposed penalties and a 14 day payment window.
