Lambing percentages across the Western district average about 75 percent for the season. Although many holdings reported high marks, late sessions and poor ewe condition pulled averages down. Autumn lambing ranged from 16 to 60 percent amid ongoing goat feed and handfeeding.

Woman Arrested After Demanding Speed at Airfield

A drunken woman was arrested after ordering a speed run in a tour-engined plane. She stripped a man's shirt, prompting the pilot Mr P B Rem to return to the airfield and report to police. Officers confiscated her handbag containing a whisky bottle and charged her with drunkenness.

Would Form Burra Scout Troop Meets Enthusiastic Welcome

A Burra Primary School meeting on Monday evening drew about ten adults and 40 boys aged 11 to 16 for plans to form six Burra Scout Troops. Dr G L Mellor welcomed Field Commander Mugge. Mugge outlined benefits of the movement and activities were shown. A key difficulty noted is finding a suitable Scout Master. a parents’ meeting will be held soon to support the object. Dr Mellor thanked Mugge and W Patrick for providing the room and projector.

N E A Footballers to Visit Cadell for Match

The North East ern Association teams suspend the Saturday series for the nest fortnight and select a squad to visit Cadell on Saturday July 11 to play Mid Murray Association. Players include Cousing, Brooks, Seaford, Byles, Jackson, Cousins, Benefick, Gollins, Furst, Farrellly, Maxwell, Scott, Daly, Wincock, Edwards, Honan, Wilsten, Barle and several reserves.

Two car loads of Burra RSL and Burra Air Force Association members attended Whyte-Warcowie Sub-Branch annual dinner on Saturday. A large gathering from Jamestown Yongala Peterborough Twilight Port Pirie Burra and Glenelg shared the meal of turkey and other foods. Diggers are reminded the annual quiz is overdue.

Sundries completed a very satisfactory sale with strong turnout from Adelaide Mininton Martland and surrounding districts.

Mr John G Sars Celebrates 90th Birthday

Mr John G Sars of Burrs North marked his 90th birthday on Sunday July 6 with relatives including grandchildren and great grandchildren present. Telegrams and calls arrived. afternoon tea and a birthday cake prepared by Mrs Barn were shared. Despite some night and hearing loss his memory remains good and he spoke of past, present, and future as inseparable. Home duties are shared by Mr and Mrs Zara. the couple attends the Methodist Church and remains active in church life.
