Double Tax on Thrift Protest by Deputy Leader
A plea for tax relief for persons, especially public workers, contributing to superannuation funds was raised in the Legislative Assembly by Deputy Leader of the Country Party Mr D A Drummond. He argued the Federal social service tax was unjust as contributors are taxed to fund a benefit they may never receive due to the means test. He noted some would have fared better with no provision for themselves, opting instead for the old-age pension.
