Council to raise rates for fresh property reassessment

Dr Woollacuty said the council would hit hard with higher rates but spend much on a fresh assessment. The clerk cited last year’s £90 quote for two reassessments. Dr Carpenter noted true town property values could avoid rate increases. the motion passed.

Burra Rifle Club holds general meeting at the Burra Show Office on Friday night to discuss rifle issue and a forthcoming shooting program. The inspector found the range in good condition apart from minor faults to be fixed soon.

Obituary of Mr David Dearlove

Mr David Dearlove died at Terowie Hospital on February 5 at age 72. Born at Burra he lived his life in the district, cycling in sports meetings and playing for Ketchowla Cricket Club. He carted wool to Burra then Terowie for over four decades and loved horses and early motor travel. He was a bachelor and never visited Atcinide.

An Old Hallett Pioneer Passes

Mr Chas McDonald, Hallett’s oldest pioneer, died recently. Born December 2 1864 at McViddys Flat, he came to Hallett as a child and lived there 80 years. A respected farmer and Methodist, he helped many and leaves four sons and three daughters and his widow.
