Desert Turned into Farmland
A rush of applicants for land in the 90 mile Desert of South Australia follows successful soil experiments by CSIR. It is estimated over two million acres once worthless can be brought into production. CSIR researchers found zinc and copper sulphate plus super phosphate yield subterranean clover and other pasture crops, enabling farming and dairy potential. Birth Dates Set Up Argument
An Appeal Court decision has set doctors and lawyers arguing Mr Justice Valsey ruled a husband could not be father of a child born 188 days after his return from abroad. London doctors could not commit on the absolute minimum. Most put the shortest term for a normal birth at about 240 days. Many births occur after caution about average term. In a later case a divorce judge held a child born 340 days after the husband went abroad would not be legitimate. Mr Vaisey based his judgment on Army records hospital sheets and normal development of the baby.
