A Bunbury wartime recruiting appeal urges stronger enlistment to support exhausted battalions. It honors local volunteers, condemns political hesitations, and warns that failure to enlist will split the community into two rival classes. It names local families and notes the moral duty to fight for democracy.
The Commissioner of Taxation Mr. R. Ewing outlines exemptions for recognised commercial travellers who are employees under Section 8c and for non-employees who mainly travel to sell goods for principals. It also covers guidance for agricultural and pastoral business capital allocations and wage apportionment. It notes a two-bank system with one client account in credit and a separate secured overdraft account with no interest charged on the overdrawn account.
The Governor of the Commonwealth Bank urged all Australians to consider subscribing to the sixth war loan, offering choice between 41 1/2 percent free of Commonwealth and State taxes or 5 percent free of State tax. He noted previous issues raised over £101 million, current war expenses about £60 million, and about £40 million still needed to fund Australia’s war effort. The loan funds would equip and maintain soldiers at the front, with prosperity and high product prices helping public finances.
