Tea Drunkenness and the Tea Habit Threat to Health

A lengthy critique by J. H. Clarke M.D. argues tea acts as a powerful stimulant, risks nervous wear, neurasthenia, and dyspepsia, and can cause anaemia. The piece condemns tea as a subtle poison, urges abstinence societies, and warns against letting children drink tea. It mentions high tannin content, leather-like digestion, and contrasts tea to alcohol. It weaves in society lore about Empress Elizabeth and Russian superstition, finishing with local business notes and a patent remedy pitch.
