The Montreal Halifax railway bridge was destroyed by dynamite. An ex-officer, a German named Von Born, was arrested in Vanceboro Maine and confessed to the crime blaming Canada for the war and claiming a plot to invade the country remains brewing with preparations made.
Reports from January 2 describe heavy artillery exchanges on both sides. German units briefly repelled a British sea post at Govinchy, then Britain counterattacked and advanced beyond the captured position. A full battalion took part in the effort and German forces suffered noticeable losses.
