Harvey drainage scheme debated at district Hall meeting
A Friday gathering in Harvey heard Minister for Water Supply Mr W. 4. George outline the drainage project costs and proposed levies. He said £34,000 was agreed for the scheme with settlers paying 17s 6d an acre annually, but actual spend reached £43,000 plus £7,000 on a second scheme. The balance would be borne by taxpayers. The meeting discussed water loss, channel seepage, and potential further lining. Suggestions included adjusting capital to £29,030 and planning a 14s 9d per acre rate for 3,368 acres for 1918–19, with adjustments in later years. The group debated Royal Commission prospects and urged formation of a board under the Act to manage the scheme.
