New Guinea Agriculture Director Reports On Plant Growth

The director of agriculture in New Guinea Mr Siem Zorah Smith sent monthly reports to the Department for External Affairs. He arrived at Port Moresby May 16 and supervised unloading ten tons of plants and seeds. Of 7 CX Para rubber stamps 30 to 40 percent sprouted. 300 rubber plants 65 percent growing. Su06 weeds 60 percent sprouted with 70 to 80 percent expected to grow. 25 Amboya clove plants sold. He scouted land at Galley Reach for an experimental garden but found land held under Jesse. He praises land taken by Sir Rupert Clarke and by Me Bloomsfield and is revising the draft Handbook of Papen. An agricultural library of about 208 books has been formed including tropical agriculture works from Papuan Government and those he brought.
