Turmoil at Tunis Excludes Christian Rites and Beis Family Purge
The account describes a Turkish stronghold in Tunis with black eunuchs guarding women, a prince and his mother and sister, and a private chapel showing a crucifix and Virgin. Mass is observed by slaves, and later the narrator helps ransom captives. In 1702 a revolution beheads Adehemet Bei and his kin, ousting his line as Ibrahim Sherif is proclaimed Bei, with public display of the heads and the near total extinction of the Beis family.
