From Capiz August 3 reports say Gov Elliott obtained enormous cannons and mounted a long range battery. A seven hour bombardment began August 1, nearly destroying works near the rock and killing engineer Lopes Sebastian and Mont. Fendon. Two Castilian regiments march to replace losses.
Portsmouth reports the Royal George righted with masts out of water. Oxford details a burglary at Leverett’s in St Ebb’s parish. a murder at Pimley Farm near Chester. Worcester incident with a horse chaise and scaffold ladder. Salisbury notes a rector’s drunken enlistment and a highway robbery near Rectrice Wood.
London September 7 Sir James Lowther waited on Lord Keppel and urged faster county subscriptions for building ships of war He asked Lord Keppel to convey to the King that a 74 gun man of war should be accepted fully manned rigged and fitted for action with all expenses covered by the state
