From Bruxelles reports indicate growing unrest in the Austrian Low Countries. Brabant may refuse subsidies until the former footing is restored, signaling potential upheaval as Emperor persists with planned reforms.
In a May Commons session, a committee resolution imposes an extra duty on low rent liquor licenses. Burke moves to resume impeachment reports. Hastings and Montague pursue articles of impeachment. Burke presents the impeachment to the Lords, and both Houses adjourn. Pay and other bills face debate with opposition to a new tax principle amid concerns for liberties.
The House debated revenue policies amid opposition to a Bull tax and shop tax aimed at easing the burden on the poor. Sir G P Turner challenged the plan, while others urged farming of tax collection and stricter controls on farmers. A rider proposed restricting farmer prosecutions but was dropped after legal explanation. the bill passed to the Lords.
An old advertisement extols Dr Norris Drops as a universal remedy for fevers colds and stomach ailments. It claims relief from colicky pains and a range of disorders citing extensive use and safety for infants pregnant women and delicate constitutions. Sold by Cocking Rudhall and several London and Bristol outlets with various bottle sizes and prices.
The parish pays a modus in lieu of tithe. Further particulars and conditions of sale apply to Metirs Osborne and Seacer, at turnics, in Baistol, and a view of the premises is to be made to the Tenant.
