Five Prisoners Convicted at Winchester Assizes
At Winchester assizes five prisoners were capitally convicted. In a suit between Sarah Stephens of Newport Isle of Wight and Mr Spencer, aged 65, plaintif and defendant, the jury awarded the lady 40 pounds damages with costs. The case drew much amusement over the ill matched pair and the Valentines day plan.
