How the Saleyards Were Established
The Bridgetown stock markets grew from Blechynden's initiative in the early 1900s with land owned by Joseph Smith hosting the first saleyards. Later, Elder Shenton & Co. took over operations, expanding through Bunbury and the South-West, with regular markets boosting local trade and cattle and later pig sales, while the current site near the town center remains favored over other proposed locations.
