New Petrol Savers Boost Engine Efficiency and Power

Postwar engines with higher compression ratios show improved fuel economy and power in US road tests. Two methods emerged: a dual fuel system using a water-gauged two-bowl setup to switch from low to high grade petrol, and injection of an anti-knock solution into the fuel stream during acceleration.

Special Vitameter anti-knock system for cars tested in US

The Vitameter injects a methanol water mix with lead into the intake to raise octane. Tests with engines at 8 to 9 to 1 compression allowed ordinary petrol use. One gallon of Vital lasts 600 to 2000 miles. Three US petroleum companies backed a plan to seek public acceptance of this anti-knock method.

Soviet critic claims USSR most profound Shakespeare interpreter

Yusovsky argues that English readers misread Shakespeare and that Soviet actors offer deeper meanings. He cites Othello as not inherently jealous, Romeo and Juliet as a clash of medieval and Renaissance forces, and Lear as a man aware of a cruel world, asserting Soviet theatre’s superior interpretive depth.
