Rise in Manjimup Water Charges
Manjimup Water and Light Board considers raising the water rate to 3d in the pound on rateable value and charging excess water at 2d per thousand gallons. The present rate is 2d in the pound with 1s 9d excess. Secretary Mr Fowles says figures justify the increase to a sound financial basis, with a possible 1962 reduction if revenue improves. The board aims to fund depreciation and avoid future deficits, while a parallel plan for a long distant water scheme could aid a future fire brigade. A minimum charge for vacant blocks adjacent to mains is set to rise from £1 to £2.
