Before the meeting the Bridgetown Druid's Lodge presented ex secretary Clem Lucas with an inscribed easy chair after eight years in office. Lucas, who relinquished the post last May due to ill health, thanked the lodge and urged successor Aubrey James to continue the lodge's work.
Arrangements for the Trotting Club events at the Bridgetown Show will be discussed at a committee meeting next Saturday. The trotting season opens November 27 with three races two over a mile and one over 14 miles each carrying a £10 stake. Nominations close October 28 with trotting secretary Mr. Co. H. Briggs.
The notice states a subscription rate of 8/6 per year payable in advance after post free.
Ipsen and Muir captured the Blackwood District Canadian Foursomes Championship with 145 total after 74 and 71. They led the field by two strokes after the morning round and won by seven. Salvair and Salvair finished second. other prize winners included Murray Pittelkow and Hester Armstrong in various handicap events. Bridgetown club officials praised the event and thanked volunteers for a well run competition.
A resolution to be submitted at the South West Division C W A meeting in Collie on November 3 requests the W A G D R to align Australind bookings with road bus seats. Ten passengers faced standing room on the Bridgetown Bunbury route, prompting the aim to improve arrangements. Miss Henderson Miss Zimmern London visitors and a luncheon are anticipated with local members Meeting actions and upcoming visits noted.
Mrs. Veale led a 20 member Bridgetown Red Cross meeting with tribute to the late Mr. Walter Hill. The branch reported £15 17s 4d in donations and noted an eggs collection for the hospital and a December 10 Christmas Stall sewing drive. Next week a Bible Association social afternoon will be held at the Repertory rooms with a plate from Red Cross members.
