Easter Tennis Tournament Promises Keen Play and Socials

Excellent entries arrive for the Easter tennis event with fine weather forecast for the grass courts. Handicaps, sealed draws, and spectator seating at the pavilion will guide competition and the Easter ball on Monday will feature trophy presentations by President Mr. H. Moore.

Bridgetown selects Malcolm Scott for Parliament bid

Bridgetown Liberal branch chose Malcolm Scott a road board chairman businessman and farmer as candidate for the next Federal election in Forrest electorate. Policy speeches by three of five candidates Killerby Prowse and Scott. Cumings Freath absent by letter. Meeting at BSL Hall crowded with standers on verandahs. District result from Bunbury not yet known.

Repair Committee on Houses Allocation in Town

The Repair Committee on Houses Allocation aims to increase local housing by accepting applications through committee chairman W. L. Owen at the Commonwealth Employment Service Office. At a recent meeting, they also addressed tools of trade, removal expenses, and business loans with recommendations sent to the department commissioner. Tools of trade expiry is June 6, 1948, with exceptions for servicemen discharged within twelve months. Members praised for aiding ex servicemen to re establish civil livelihoods and pledged continued support.

Greenbushes RSL Auxiliary Evening Prize Night

The RSL Women's Auxiliary held the first eutire e evening with Herbert topping the scores and Doherty and Herbert tied for second. Westlake won the mystery prize. Prizes donated by Mrs. McCaul, who also provided her room saving hire costs. Donations for supper to Miss Neville. Greenbushes Farmers Union meeting moved to April 5 from March 29.

Truck Plunges Over Embankment After Dance Night

A five ton truck driven by Robert Jones of Greenbush, near Hester Siding, rolled over an embankment around 10 30 p m Friday. Passenger Raymond Green and Jones sustained injuries but were not seriously hurt. They were brought to Bridgetown Hospital. Cedric Jones owned the truck.

Greenbushes Hockey Club Social at Miners Hall

The Greenbushes hockey club held a social event last Saturday March 20 at the Miners Hall. Attendees praised the evening with a well decorated hall and a refreshment booth inside a netted palm enclosures. The club thanked Messrs Lindsay Williams Selfe and Lindsay for decor and the women in the kitchen for a delicious supper. A meeting on March 16 finalized plans for the event and the club expects about 17 pounds 10 shillings profit.

1948 Car Stolen From Hampton Street

A 1948 model car owned by Mr. Fred Lee Steere of Bridgetown was stolen between 8 15 and 10 pm on Thursday from in front of the Kookaburra Tea Rooms. The damaged vehicle was found abandoned three miles north of Balingup the next day, police investigations continue.

Bridgetown Heat Continues Amid Dry Thunderstorm Warning

Bridgetown records show five days of highs around 90 degrees with no rainfall. The 24 hour figures include Saturday 93 or 94, Sunday 90, Monday 96, Tuesday unclear, and Wednesday 91 with highs near 90s and lows in the 50s to 60s.
