With the water supply dwindling the Under Secretary for Water Supply announces new limits. From March 1 to further notice only 40 people may distribute water for lawn or garden sprinkling, and hand held hoses are banned except 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Violators face up to £20 fine and broader curbs may close water between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily.

Improvements for Bridgetown water plan proposed

Mr R W Scott argues the town should modify the present water scheme rather than pursue a new project. He cites high transport costs, piping shortages, and the need to protect a nearby dam site while expanding bitumen surface and adding an adit level to ease dam cleaning. He claims these steps would provide steady supply, lower pumping and piping needs, and keep water rates down.
