Bridgetown reports freezing temperatures with dense fog and heavy rain this week. Ground drops to 23.1 degrees with a low minimum near 28 degrees, ice forms in exposed water, taps block, making difficult conditions. Winter described as one of the severest in years. Rain totals up to June 30 stand at 671 points with July figures rising.
Greenbushes saw three days of severe frosts with a Saturday start and a gale wind by night. Rain drove in as 68 points were recorded for the 24 hours ending Sunday morning. Ice formed on wind screens at Thompson’s property and water froze in tubs at Ingrams. Farmers reported taps blocked by ice.
In the last week of 60 frost keeps homes at 26 degrees inside as pipes freeze at school water. Children cannot wash hands at 9 am due to frozen lines. Ice four to four inches thick covers roads and puddles. Rain arrives as frosts ease, bringing welcome relief.
Mr. H. Brand general manager in Australia for Neptune Oil Co. arrived at Bridgetown for a short visit. He was accompanied by Mr. Carter Perth manager for the company.

Additional items include an electric washing machine and plans for new nurses quarters while patient numbers rose slightly and finances rely on Federal Benefits subsidies and a Lotteries Commission gift for a new refrigerator.
Nelson dominates in intertown football sweeping both first and second elevens over Donnybrook. The first eight scored 20.1 to 9.9 with Donnybrook 3.2 early in the second term, then Nelson surged 6.2 to 1.1 in the third quarter. Final: Nelson 20.1 Donnybrook 9.9 first eighteen. Nelson 11.13 Donnybrook 8.9 second eighteen.
A union branch cites hardship from rail pass cancellation and asks the head office to restore passenger service. Discussion on the 40-hour week’s effect on primary producers leads to a motion urging the executive to mobilize against adverse impacts. The zone council will raise petrol use by local garages servicing producer machinery at the next meeting.
The Bridgetown Hospital Board finance committee recommended writing off £607 19s 2d as irrecoverable. At Tuesday’s meeting the board accepted the recommendation but then decided that further action was needed.
A Bridgetown man’s quickee tale ends with a fly in his drink prompting a bar remark about infantile paralysis. The board faces a £1,100 collection action as government help is blocked by outstanding accounts. Chairman Mr. Goodridge notes the board must act now.
