New Rh Factor Developments Reported At Pediatrics Meet
At the American Academy of Pediatrics convention in San Francisco doctors heard optimistic news after a pessimistic briefing. Protective blood factor saved infants in Rh disease study
Dr Diamond and colleagues studied Rh incompatibility and found infant deaths linked to male donor blood. Female donor blood sharply reduced mortality, suggesting a protective substance in some maternal or female blood. Doctors now use female donors for replacement transfusions and seek to identify the protective factor for broader treatment prospects.
